Description
The cultivated apple tree is widespread worldwide as a fruit tree and remains relatively small, reaching a height of 4-10 m and a trunk diameter of 0.15-0.35 m. Its bark is finely fissured to scaly and grey to greyish-brown, while the wood appears light reddish to greyish-brown and often darkens with age. At around 830 kg/m³, it is dense, rather stiff, and somewhat brittle when dry; the fine, sometimes slightly irregular grain makes it attractive, but not entirely easy to work with.
Applewood possesses a bright, ordered quality that is rarely loud, but always effective. It is among the more discerning woods and seeks bearers with clear ideals and a conscious approach to magic. Not brute force, but rather focus determines how much of its potential is actually accessible. Its strength is often underestimated. Applewood is by no means weak – it concentrates power instead of displaying it broadly. In the right combination, this results in spells of high clarity and stability that take precise hold and show little loss. It shows its most pronounced characteristics particularly in charms, loyalty, and healing magic, without being limited to these. Its ordering effect is striking. Magic with this wood rarely appears chaotic or overloaded, but rather structured and comprehensible. This makes it particularly suitable for finely tuned effects, complex bonds, and smooth transitions between states. Healing processes benefit from this quality, as do controlled changes. Applewood remains noticeably reserved towards dark or destructive intentions. It works in such directions only reluctantly and rarely reaches its full potential there. Its nature is geared towards building, not disintegration. If the bond is successful, applewood reveals itself as a reliable, refined partner. It demands not harshness, but consistency in the goal. Its strength lies in clarity, not in volume – and it is precisely in this that it unfolds an effect that is often more lasting than overt power.
