The black poplar used here is widespread in Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa, reaching heights of 20–30 m with a trunk diameter of 1.0–1.5 m. With age, the bark becomes deeply furrowed and turns gray to dark gray, while the wood remains very light to light brown. At only about 385 kg/m³, it is soft, noticeably pliable, and not very strong. Although easy to work, it tends to develop a woolly surface when planed and warps during drying.

Poplar is reliable. Not spectacular, not eccentric, but honest in a way that is calming in everyday life as well as in times of crisis. This wood doesn't push itself to the forefront, yet it remains consistently present and responds reliably to clear leadership and stable intentions.
