Description
The giant sequoia is native to California but is planted worldwide as a park tree, reaching heights of 50–85 (95) meters with a massive trunk diameter of 6–8.8 meters. Its cinnamon- to reddish-brown bark is very thick, fibrous, and deeply furrowed; the wood displays reddish-brown to purplish-brown tones. Despite its size, it is relatively light at approximately 375 kg/m³ and only moderately elastic, yet easily workable, provided irregular grain patterns are taken into account.
