Description
The rowan or mountain ash is widespread in Europe and northern Asia and typically grows to a height of 10–20 m with a trunk diameter of 0.2–0.4 (0.5) m. Its bark is smooth and grey when young, becoming slightly fissured later; the wood ranges from light yellowish to reddish-brown, occasionally with a darker heartwood. With a density of approximately 650–800 kg/m³, it is remarkably hard, elastic, and tough, with a fine grain and well-suited for small, heavily stressed applications.
Rowan is one of the most protective woods and possesses a strong resistance against all forms of darkness. Its magic is bright, sober, and pure, leaving little room for falsification. This wood represents clarity in action and a steadfastness that is not easily shaken. It aligns itself best with sincere, clear-headed individuals who are not swayed from their path by deception or threats. This is not about severity, but about inner order. Rowan reacts strongly to integrity and quickly recognizes whether this stance will hold up under pressure. Its nature is particularly evident in strong loyalty, pronounced protective and healing magic, and high effectiveness in duels. Defensive spells cast with it are dense, stable, and difficult to break. At the same time, its magic is not purely passive. In direct combat, it displays a clear, precise assertiveness that avoids unnecessary harshness. This very combination makes it an exceptional wood for combat-oriented wielders. Rowan not only protects, it endures and responds. Its spells remain cleanly cast even under pressure and do not lose their structure, even when the situation becomes chaotic. Healing magic integrates seamlessly. Its effect is ordering and stabilizing, allowing it to both limit damage and counteract it effectively. This balance between protection, restoration, and active resistance is rare and demands clear leadership. When properly bound, it creates a wand of great reliability. Rowan does not boast, but it does not fail either. It remains clear, even in conflict – and therein lies its true strength.
